Leather Care and Restoration Services
Furniture Medic provides a full range of leather care and restoration services that deal with the following problems:
Dye Transfer/Colour Loss
Problem: Spillages such as nail varnish remover, aerosols and other substances can lead to colour loss/damage to certain hides. Additionally certain types of clothing and cushion covers when combined with body heat can lead to dye transfer causing discolouration of leather suites – (e.g. blue jeans). This is particularly relevant to light coloured pigmented leather suites such as cream, ivory and white.
Remedy – Clean and colour blend forward facing areas
Worn seat panels
Problem: Over time seat panels tend to wear, stretch and loose colour. This problem is particularly relevant to fixed seat cushions where it is not possible to swap cushions around to spread wear rates.
Remedy – Remove covers, replace seat panels (fillings if appropriate) and colour match.
Broken seat panels stitching
Problem: This is particularly relevant to leather sofas that are supported by a surrounding wooden frame.
Remedy – Remove covers, re-stitch/replace panels and recover. Colour blending/re-antiquing is also required in certain cases
Damaged panels
Problem: Often caused by burns, cuts and scrapes occurring during house moves or decorating. Children and pets are also often involved in this kind of problem.
Remedy – Replace damaged panel with a ‘matched’ replacement (i.e. colour and ‘leather type/grain’ characteristics).
